The programme is part of the USAID Improving Private Sector Competitiveness project (USAID IPSC), supporting the roll-out of the Prime Minister’s Decision 167/QD-TTg of 2022 on the programme to support sustainable business in the private sector.
Globally, as climate change grows more serious and protecting the environment becomes urgent, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh announced Vietnam’s strong commitments at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) to respond to climate change and reach net-zero emissions by 2050. Cutting greenhouse-gas emissions matters to any business trying to make a difference within global value chains. To meet emissions-reduction requirements and to take up the openings that follow, businesses need a clear picture of their emission sources and volumes, so they can manage business risk better and lead on the green transition.
On 29 and 30 November 2023, Green Lien Chieu and more than 40 small and growing businesses from high-emission sectors took part in the training course “Building business capability to meet the requirements of the green transition, emissions reduction and greenhouse-gas inventory practice”, held in Hanoi by the Agency for Enterprise Development of the Ministry of Planning and Investment together with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), through the Improving Private Sector Competitiveness project.
The course helped businesses see both the openings and the obstacles on their road to net zero, and set out a green-transition path, with practice in drawing up a matching strategy and action plan. Participants also came away with the concepts and basic principles of inventory work, and practised a preliminary greenhouse-gas inventory — the backbone of a green-transition strategy — along with effective measures for cutting a business’s greenhouse-gas emissions.
This was a good opportunity for Green Lien Chieu to learn from, and connect with, businesses that share its commitment to sustainable development — something the company already practises and intends to build on.
